Prior’s Oak Wildlife Garden

On 14th June Aldeburgh WI enjoyed their Annual Educational Outing to the Wildlife Garden at Prior’s Oak, Aldeburgh by kind permission of Mrs. Trudie Willis. The weather was perfect and everyone enjoyed strolling round the immaculate vegetable garden and the beautiful cultivated areas as well as the wildlife friendly area of the garden with its ponds and butterfly area.

The collections in the vintage railway carriage and the summer house proved very interesting, and members had fun meeting Mrs. Willis’s collection of tortoises. Laurie Wiseman had brought along his portable bee colony and we puzzled to find the location of the queen. Mike Swindells showed us a fascinating selection of moths caught in both his and the Prior’s Oak garden the previous night. We had not realised that moths were so beautiful or so varied.

After a very enjoyable and informative afternoon we were treated to tea and delicious cakes on the veranda – the perfect ending to the afternoon.
